Before the first present is opened we gather around with the Bible and read the Christmas Story from Luke chapter 2. Then we enjoy a time of GIVING gifts to one another - remembering that God is our example. He gave the greatest gift of all....His Son - JESUS!
In the weeks before Christmas people get "sneaky" and have secrets. Well, it was fun as our kids did that to mommy and daddy this year. On a trip in to town the kids each took their money to do some Christmas shopping (they had very little - just little bits they had saved here and there). It was a joy to watch the three oldest put their money together to get Ron, Caleb, and myself a little something.
They were so excited to GIVE us our gifts. So, Christmas morning when it was time to open gifts, the kids requested that we go first. Now, I am in no way saying that my kids were not excited to open their gifts...they were. However, I was so proud of them as they experienced first hand that it IS "...more blessed to give than to receive".
Another tradition in our family is that everyone watches as each gift is opened.

Great fun!!! A new LEGO computer game.
getting some fresh air before Christmas dinner
Our Christmas was simple....but special. We enjoyed things this day that money can't buy. We have each other - our family - if we had nothing else, we have much to be thankful for. But, God has blessed us with much, much more.
