Being a mom...

I have many different titles or names that show my relationships with different people. I am a daughter (and daughter-in-law), a sister (and sister-in-law), a grand daughter, niece, cousin, aunt, wife, four precious children I am a MOTHER. Well, acutally, my kids call me mommy most of the time. As they get older they sometimes call me mom. Once in a while they even call me MA, but that is when they are being silly or they have just watched Little House on the Prarie or something. It really doesn't matter to me if they call me mom, mommy, mother, mama, or even ma because I like them all. To me, being a mom is...

*my child's arms wrapped around my neck as they whisper "I love you" in my ear
*my son bringing me wild flowers he found outside because they are "pretty like you, mommy"
*my kids saying I'm the best cook in the world
*saying good night to each child (usually more than once) before tucking them in to bed
*reading lots of Golden Books
*singing action songs
*having more helpers to make cookies than I do to sweep the floor
*always having the camera handy
*fixing lots of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
*having my kids say I'm beautiful....while I'm in my robe with no make-up on - that's love :)
*my kids telling me I'm the best mom in the world

...just to name a few.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't get lots of hugs and kisses from each of my children. Even though my boys are getting older, I'm thankful they are not "too cool" to express their love for me (and their dad). Although a mother's work is never done and motherhood is not just a bed of roses, I would not trade my life as a mom for anything.

I LOVE my kids and I'm thankful for the honor of being their MOM!

Mother's Day 2010
The Little Things

It is the little things that count
And give a mother pleasure -
The things her children bring to her
Which they so richly treasure...
The picture that is smudged a bitWith tiny fingerprints,
The colored rock, the lightning bugs,The sticky peppermints;
The ragged, bright bouquet of flowers
A child brings, roots and all -
These things delight a mother's heart
Although they seem quite small.
A mother can see beauty
In the very smallest thing
For there's a little bit of heaven
In a small child's offering.

  1. Very enjoyable post! It warms my heart to have a sister who loves her family so much. (and they love her back) Reading your memories prompted several good and funny memories of Timothy also. Always glad when you post something else. Tell the kids hi for us.

  2. Loved the article! I really liked the part where you listed what being a mother is to you. That was very well put. I think it is funny that the kids sometimes call you Ma. Our girls are so into Little House on the Prairie that they call me Pa quite a bit. Sometimes they call me Pappy (that's from Old Yeller). But I agree with your assessment...what they call us isn't what is important, but rather that each of the names and titles are said with love. Liked the picture too! The kids are growing up!

An encouraging word is always welcome and much appreciated!
