A Little of This....A Little of That

We received our first ever Valentine Package this month! My cousins and aunt put this together for us and they did an awesome job. Lots of creativity went into this package and we sure enjoyed it. Much of the stuff was simple, but very thoughtful goodies. Of course, the *newest* Patch the Pirate CD made a huge hit with the kids. Another thing that received big cheers from all of us was the packets of hot sauce from Taco Bell.

Even the Cat in the Hat box was fun (since most of the time a package is in a brown or white box). The package was festive and very special! Thank you DeAna, Malinda, and Aunt Bobbie!!!

I used the balloons from our package to help make Valentine's Day fun. After the kids went to bed, Ron blew up the balloons and I placed them at the table with a special treat.

Did you notice that I made a heart with the honey in the bowl of cream of wheat?

A supporting church also sent some Valentine's cards for the kids! The note, cards, and the pictures were very thoughtful and a blessing.

Since my word for the month of February has been LOVE....I tried to do some extra special things throughout the month to display my love for my kids and husband.
One day I made a batch of homemade hot chocolate and topped it off with some heart-shapped marshmallows.....just because ♥

Another day, I hid notes for everyone to find....just because ♥

Of course, they had to have candy with it :)

As I have spent extra time meditating on the word LOVE this month, I have been reminded that there are many different kinds of love and different ways to show that love. My heart has been challenged to love my children more and to love my husband in a greater way. I also want to be faithful in showing God's love to those around me.

Although there is much that God commands us in His Word to love, one of the things we have been commanded NOT to love is this world or the things of this world. Satan's desire is to turn our heart and affection away from God and to this world. Oh, I'm not talking about the people of this world that God loved enough to die for, but the THINGS of this world that rob our affection. My prayer is that I would guard my heart from loving the things of this world. I also pray that God would give me wisdom as I raise my children to love the Lord with ALL THEIR HEART.

One evening this month the boys and Ron were watching an old western movie. Since Sarah was not interested in a "boy" movie, we pulled out this puzzle and worked on it together. I bought it at a thrift store here thinking it was neat that I found a United States map puzzle in Estonia. As we began putting it together, we realized that it was NOT going to be the picture that was on the box.

After working on it for a long time, I was ready to stretch my legs and move on to something else....much to Sarah's disappointment. Saturday morning Sarah got up early (she's my morning person - she did not get that from me) and finished it all by herself. A couple of days ago I found another puzzle that is 1,000 pieces that we are going to start working on this week end. Hopefully the puzzle in the box matches the picture on the outside :)

Another one of my goals for this year is to read a book every month. I LOVE to read, but I don't seem to make time to read. You see, the problem is that once I start a book I have a hard time putting it down until I'm finished. So, many times my housework and even my kids get little attention while I am ingrossed in a book. However, I have lots of good books that are just waiting for me to read them.
One of the books that I have read recently is "The Teenage Years of Jesus Christ". My mom gave it to me and I am SO glad she did. What a GREAT book!!! I highly recommend it. My oldest son will be turning 12 this year and I want God to have his heart. What is important to my son NOW (sports, movies, clothes, looks, God, church, prayer), will determine much of his future.

Anyone with kids in their teens or close to it, should read this book!

Well, I have also been working on some personal projects that are relaxing and enjoyable to me. Besides reading, crocheting is one of my favorite hobbies. It's been a long time since I have worked on a crocheting project, but now I have serveral going.
My biggest one is making a blanket for the end of my bed. Since this is going to be big, it will take awhile. It's coming along though and I am enjoying working on it as I have time.

I have gotten even more done since this picture was taken.

Since I wanted a smaller project too, I made these hats for Sarah's dolls. They are just so cute and I think her dolls are pretty pleased :)

Now I am working on some headbands. Sarah loves to wear headbands, but they usually hurt her head. These headbands are very soft and comfortable. I am having lots of fun making them.

Oh, and what is really neat about them too....the flowers button on to the headband so you can change the color of the flower. Isn't that creative? I wish I had come up with the idea myself, but I didn't.

Our weather has been c..c...c...cold for the past week or so. The temperature has been well below 0 (F). I think we hit about -28 once....brrrrr. Oh, I can't wait for summer! Anyway, we have had lots of sunshine and beautiful weather even with frigid temperatures.

The warmth of the sun's rays have shone in our windows many afternoons lately. When that happens you can usually find all of us very close to the windows enjoying the sunshine and the warmth.
